From Thursday 28 March to Sunday 19 May, ‘Staging Colours’, an open mic stage, will be installed in Central Maitland as part of The Levee’s Autumn #ChangingColours theme.
The stage, which will be located at The Riverlink, aims to encourage local creatives to add to the vibrancy of the space through their own colourful and unique styles.
Council’s Place Activation Officer David Graham is excited to launch the program which encourages creativity through performance in the heart of Maitland.
‘A large variety of acts are encouraged to use the stage, including stand up comedy, music and dance. Basically, whatever is possible in the space, has the opportunity to be featured in the space. You don’t have to be a professional performer. Anyone with a story, song or even magic trick is welcome.
‘We’ve already had a range of local acts put their hands up which is exciting. There will be an art and psychedelic guitar performance by SKUX AZ, a poetry reading by local poets and a puppet show by Franks Fantastic Fairytale Theatre, so there will be a great range of things’.
Other acts already locked in include performance duo ‘Kiki and Ifritah’ who will be putting on a colourful flag display, two piece ‘Bravo Victor’, ‘Off the Shelf’, a three piece group supported by Mai-Wel creative arts, and Maitland Brass Band.
Anyone looking to put their hand up and get involved can register via an online portal and fill in a simple form available at theleveemaitland.com.au
